Australia Day and Trump and Wild Wild Snags
Please excuse the song reference title, I couldn’t help myself. Every other person on the planet has heard about our amazing fellow human Mr. Trump’s latest endeavours. A travellers nightmare to be fair. Sadly, it overshadowed two of my favourite events of this year.
First of all the 26th brought us my favourite day in January – Australia Day! Which, funnily enough, coincides with pay day. I’m sure it was designed that way.
Quite sad really, all of those pretty fireworks. But still, congratulations goes to Australia for existing for yet another year. Hopefully that trend continues.
It would’ve been nice but most of the celebrations “in reach” were in London. Did anyone else get out to celebrate?
Then secondly, we have the amazing prospect of a Bunnings store opening in the UK. Not too happy that it’s in St Albans which is about.. well it’s a long way from me. Rumour has it that a fair few Brits are confused – what even is Bunnings? That doesn’t matter though, the legendary Snags (they’re sausages for you slangless peons) have come to the UK. Happy days!
Hopefully the spirits of the week aren’t completely dampened by the disappointing news that Donald Trump has decided to block nationals of a few particular countries from entering the States.
No matter how you look at it, it’s completely un-American and I was genuinely surprised that he actually acted upon his “Muslim ban”. If ever there were a country that seemed to be moving backward progress-wise, I believe Trump’s America might be it.
Who knows? I could be wrong and he may have just executed the best order in history, but for now I err on the side of caution. The world is a big place, and the power to prevent anyone from having the opportunity to explore and visit other countries shouldn’t be down to a single person (or a pathetically small group of people). Especially when, there aren’t really any grounds for doing so.
I sincerely hope those of you travelling or away on business that are unable to get home manage to do so soon, but until then, you might as well come to the UK and enjoy some snags!
